In spite of the security situation, over 100 Arab and Jewish developers and engineers came together to work for 36 hours straight, developing applications, software and advanced technological products as part of the Makeathon competition held on Oct 16th and 17thin Nazareth. The event was organized by Tsofen, whose purpose is to fully integrate between the Arab society and the Israeli hi-tech industry, in partnership with the Nazareth Business Incubator Center, Intel and Mobile Monday. The Makeathon was supported by USAID, the British Embassy, and Intel.
The winning group developed a smart bracelet, which can activate electronic devices remotely by using hand gestures.
Sami Saadi, co-CEO of Tsofen said: “The event focused on projects that make the world a better place. This is an opportunity for real partnership and to promote hi-tech in Arab society.”The Makeathon in Nazareth has already established itself as a respected and exciting tradition, where Arabs and Jews work together for 36 hours to develop their next innovative product.
