IATF Update: President Trump’s Declaration on Jerusalem

In December, U.S. President Donald Trump reversed longstanding international precedent by recognizing Jerusalem as Israel’s capital. While his announcements included assurances that this does not reflect a departure from a lasting peace agreement nor a decision specifying Jerusalem’s borders, the move was widely received within Israel’s Arab society as upending American commitment to a bilateral peace process and as such, as potentially destabilizing to the region.
