ADL Director weighs in on the status of Arab citizens of Israel

Abraham Foxman, Director of the Anti-Defamation League, responded on Monday to Rula Jebreal’s New York Times Op-Ed on minority life in Israel.

Ms. Jebreal, an Arab Israeli journalist and foreign policy analyst, wrote about her parent’s hope for an Israel equal for all, but that  “discriminatory legislation has been designed to curtail the civil rights of Arab citizens of Israel”.

Mr. Foxman responded that “Israel struggles with the challenges of confronting and overcoming racism and other forms of discrimination” but feels Ms. Jebreal’s letter misses Israel’s achievements and continued governmental and civil society efforts towards establishing civil equality for all of Israel’s citizens.

Both perspectives represent different aspects of a complex discussion.
