The 2024 Municipal Elections in Arab Localities
In late February, Israel held municipal elections—long delayed due to the war. Despite circumstances, Arab voter turnout remained high at 76%, leading to significant shifts in mayoral positions. What insights can these results offer into trends within Arab communities and mixed cities? How have local priorities evolved on the ground?
On April 17, IATF hosted a discussion on insights from the analysis of election results. IATF was joined by Imad Jaraisy, CEO of Injaz, an organization devoted to the professionalization of local Arab government in Israel; Dr. Rana Zaher, Linguistics and English Lecturer at Haifa University and Emek Yezreel College, former council member in Nazareth, and social activist; and Dr. Muhammed Khalaily, Director of Qadaya, and researcher at the IDI.
