Jama'ah- Leadership Development & Community Empowerment
Jama’ah is an Arab center for the development of community leadership. Its aim is to develop an aware, empowered community-oriented leadership that has a sense of belonging to the community and is prepared to be personally involved in healing and empowering it both individually and collectively via community initiative and grassroots activism. Jama’ah is an initiative of a group of professionals who are actively involved in community affairs and have long experience in community activism, group facilitation, organizational consultancy, building and directing social and educational programs. In 2007, all of them came together in an initiative to establish an organization that could make use of their potential – both individually and collectively as a committed, diverse, skilled group working collectively on a professional level to craft a better future for their society. They believe that for social change to be successful it must come from within; the community itself must realize the needs and mobilize an action. An outgrowth of efforts to develop civil society in the central Triangle region of the country, the organization is based in that area and operates projects for leadership development mainly there and throughout the country. Goals: * Developing an empowered, innovative, purposeful leadership within various sectors of the Palestinian society, committed to activism and social change. * Restoring solidarity and a culture of voluntarism among various components of society, through utilizing practices rooted in the Arab cultural heritage and identity. * Fostering social justice and equality within Palestinian society, based on democratic and universal human values. Jama’ah’s programs target youth councils, young adults and women. The programs include researches, conferences, workshops & trainings as well as practical hands-on experience in community activism. Jama'ah has developed networking with several partners, among them municipalities, colleges, community centers, NGOs and schools. Jama’ah’s activities are broadly covered and reported in the local media.
