The authors argue that the ability of Israel’s Arab citizens to influence political decision-making in the state has been gradually declining, partly related to changes in the electoral system and partly related to a rise in the strength of the Israeli right. The authors define political activity in the Arab community as a competition between two alternatives: (1) accommodation to the existing political order, in light of the inability to change it, and (2) a search for new political routs to achieve political influence.
