The Status of the Palestinians in Israel in an Era of Peace: Part of the Problem but not Part of the Solution

The authors discuss the issues surrounding alternative definitions for the status of Palestinians within the Jewish-Zionist state of Israel that developed in the wake of the 1993 Oslo Accords, stating that the discussion is inevitably linked to the question of the nature of the State of Israel. The authors present several theoretical formulations for the future status of the Palestinians in Israel, together with the parties??? attitudes toward these formations. The authors argue that the establishment of a Palestinian state alongside Israel will force the Palestinian Arabs citizens of Israel to redefine their relationship to the State of Israel as well as to the Palestinian state.
