The Arab Citizens of the State of Israel: The Arab Media Perspective

The author discusses the unique status of Arab citizens of Israel whose sense of belonging refers naturally to the Arab civilization and the commonly shared culture. Nonetheless, the Arabs are citizens of the Jewish State of Israel, which is not fully accepted by the surrounding Arab world. In this situation of divided loyalties, a crisis of identity has developed over the years. The author also shows how domestic and regional developments in the last 50 years have created enormous interest within the Arab world in the situation of Arabs in Israel. This growing interest was facilitated by the revolution of the Arab media during the 1990s.
