Arab-Israelis and the Events of October 2000: Trends and Attitudes Toward the State of Israel

The author reviews the violent incidents involving Arab-Israelis in early October 2000, and their subsequent boycott of the prime ministerial elections in February 2001, as a result of which their relations with both Jews and the Israeli government became an urgent issue on the public agenda. The author also discusses the development and delayed implementation of a five-year plan for developing the economy and infrastructure of the Arab sector designed to reduce the socioeconomic inequality that existed between the Jewish and Arab publics.
