Israel Movement for Reform and Progressive Judaism (IMPJ)
The IMPJ is the umbrella organization of all Reform institutions and communities in Israel. As a pluralistic Jewish organization, the IMPJ’s mission is to provide progressive Jewish services to all Israelis who seek them. The IMPJ is committed to values of social action and Tikkun Olam, as envisaged by the Prophets of Israel. As such, the IMPJ is committed to treating all Israelis with dignity and respect, and ensuring complete equality between all Israelis.
As part of its efforts to do so, over the past two years, the IMPJ has significantly expanded its activities in the field of Jewish-Arab relations, the promotion of a shared society in Israel and the battle against racism. The IMPJ’s flagship program in this field is the “Meeting Neighbors” program, bringing together Jewish families from Reform communities across the country with Arab families in nearby localities. With professional facilitation, the participants go through a process of getting to know each other on a personal basis, leading to the formation of personal relationships, discussing topics of mutual interest, undoing stereotypes and breaking barriers. The participants leave the program after having formed genuine friendships and rediscovering their neighbors.
The IMPJ is also promoting a shared society through education, with the development of a one-of-its kind curriculum program titled “Adabrah-Na Shalom – And I Shall Speak the Word of Peace,” teaching students the importance of shared living through Jewish texts and liturgy.
These programs go hand-in-hand with the on-going work being done by the IMPJ to promote an inclusive, tolerant Israeli society.
