Hagar - Jewish-Arab Education for Equality
Hagar Association was founded in 2007 by a group of Jewish and Arab activists from Be'er-Sheva who wanted to give their children the opportunity to learn and grow up together, understanding each other's language, customs, traditions and narratives. Hagar's school adapts the Ministry of Education's curriculum to its own unique Arabic-Hebrew bilingual, multicultural pedagogy. Now 320 children, from the age of one through sixth grade, attend Hagar schools, representing a 30% increase in enrollment over last year and a doubling of the preschool framework in the past two years. Hagar Association supports the educational frameworks by developing innovative programs to provide our students and alumni with fun, educational programs that also give back to the community. Hagar also facilitates community activities for the families of our students to give them the chance to get to know each other. Hagar, the only bilingual, multicultural school in the Negev, is poised for greater impact in the entire Negev region.
