Opening of Rahat's Women's Fitness and Well Being Center

AJEEC-NISPED's newest social enterprise, El-Hudaj' - a one-of-a-kind Women's Only Fitness and Well Being Center in Rahat, officially opened its doors on March 8th, in honor of the International Women's Day. AJEEC-NISPED focuses on the development of civil society with aiming to advance sustainable social and economic development. Similar to AJEEC-NISPED's Women’s Catering Enterprise (Al Sanabel) in Hura that works to benefit the community, half of El-Hudaj's business profits will be reinvested in community projects in Rahat as well. This innovative project was co-sponsored by the Bernard van Leer Foundation, the Rosalinde and Arthur Gilbert Foundation and the JDC.

At the opening ceremony, Rahat's Deputy Mayor, the head of the city's Social Services and the Director of Rayan, the center promoting Bedouin employment, stressed the importance of such a center for Bedouin women. This 300 meter safe space for women includes a state of the art gym, a group exercise studio, a club room for special programs as well as a skin care treatment room etc. Trained instructors will run personal fitness training sessions, experts in fitness and nutrition will be invited to lecture and every Saturday, one of the rooms will turn into a supervised play room for young children of the center's members. The new Women's Only Fitness and Well Being Center also offers new employment opportunities for Bedouin women in the city.
