Arab Public Elementary Schools: New Approaches to Narrowing Gaps

June 5, 2023

Nearly 39% of Arab citizens in Israel are under the age of 17. Most attend public schools that are underperforming or even “chronically failing.” On Monday, May 23, 2023, IATF hosted a Zoom call titled “Arab Public Elementary Schools: New Approaches to Narrowing Gaps” with The Israel Center for Educational Innovation (ICEI) to discuss new government efforts and civil sector partnerships to improve performance. Shireen Natour Hafi, Director of Arab Education (Ministry of Education) and Sally Awad Asfour, Director of Programs for Arab Communities and Tamkin (ICEI) reviewed new approaches in the government and civil sector to narrowing equality and achievement gaps in Arab public education. Alan S. Divack, Program Director (The Lucius N. Littauer Foundation) facilitated the conversation.
