The study of Arab society in Israel is carried out at the Van Leer Jerusalem Institute via a dedicated program of research, public outreach programs and policy analysis groups. The purpose of the program is to deepen sociological knowledge of the Israeli Arab community, which is a distinctive cultural, national and religious minority that requires special and innovative research attention. The program has been in operation for the last five years and the major part of its work focuses on The Arab Society Yearbook, researched, written and published by the Van Leer Jerusalem Institute researchers, presenting aggregate data on key aspects of Arab society in Israel and enabling, informed discussion, otherwise impossible.
In addition, a "Young Arab Researchers Forum" will conduct seminars and workshops for promising Arab graduate students, enabling them to maximize their academic and professional promise. Moreover, Jewish-Arab mixed cities, and how the periphery perceives the center of the country will be the subjects of research under the auspices of this project.
