Highlights the need for a shared civic foundation between all sectors of Israeli society: religious and secular, new immigrants and veteran Israelis, Jews and Arabs. The common core curriculum is a vital tool for forging genuine equality in education and education for equality, for strengthening the social fabric and value system of Israeli society. As a nongovernmental, nonpartisan, bottom-up initiative incorporating the unique voice of Israel's diverse communities, the project engaged senior education professionals from each population sector to document subjects taught in their sector and determine what they believe every student should learn, explaining how their sector understands cognitive skills, life skills and values such as equality and human dignity. This served as the basis for the subsequent proposal for a shared educational core to be integrated into all public school curricula and into the schools' ethos and activities. With the publication of the book about this project, efforts are underway to ensure its implementation in all elementary and middle schools in Israel.
