The University of Haifa’s Jewish Arab Center: The Werner Otto Scholarships

The Werner Otto Scholarships are awarded annually by the Association of German Friends of the University of Haifa to outstanding female Arab students engaged in graduate studies, as part of the effort to empower women. The Otto Werner Scholarships were awarded for the first time in 2001. Since then, 77 women have received scholarships. The recipients are outstanding students, dedicated to social and educational activities in their communities and act as advocates of human rights, women's rights, and other important issues.
Our hope is that the scholarship will help them excel academically and become leaders in academia, in their communities and in society. The Center is very grateful to Professor Otto Werner and to Ms. Sonja Lahnstein, Chairperson of the German Friends Association, for their initiative in this important endeavor.
