Project Wadi Attir

Project Wadi Attir is a Bedouin, community-based enterprise in the Negev desert of Israel. Organized as an agricultural cooperative, the first in the Bedouin sector, Wadi Attir  seeks to develop and demonstrate a breakthrough model for sustainable, organic farming, adapted to an arid environment. It is designed to combine Bedouin aspirations, values and experience, with sustainability principles and cutting edge approaches to renewable energy production, resource recycling and arid land stewardship.

The project is a joint initiative of the Sustainability Laboratory, a US-based non-profit and the Hura Municipal Council, the governing body of a local Bedouin township. Since inception, the project and its unique development process has inspired exceptionally diverse collaborations. Individuals and groups including members of the Bedouin community, local non-profit organizations, kibbutzim, academic institutions, professional organizations, government agencies, and private sector companies have all galvanized in support of this unique initiative in ways once thought inconceivable.
