The Jewish-Arabic Ensemble for Classical Arabic Music is a group in Israel specializing in the performance of classical Arabic music following western concert standards.
Professor Taiseer Elias, a renowned oud and violin player and head of the department for Arabic music at the Academy, is the music director and conductor of the group. The group consists of 20 players, half of them Israeli Arabs and half Israeli Jews. All the players are young and talented musicians, brought together in a real professional setting and long-term partnership.
The ensemble's work is education-oriented: its Jewish participants are there to acquire and master the special skills of playing Arabic music, and performances are planned to introduce this wonderful music to Israeli music students, school children in both sectors and to the general public.
The ensemble strives to make a difference in Israeli society by nurturing values such as diversity, tolerance and sensitivity to the "other," developing the value of team work, broadening horizons and increasing commitment to the community.
