JDC’s year-long community service program provides a framework in which young adults (age 18-22) who previously felt alienated from Israeli society – such as the Galilee's many Israeli Arab youth, Israeli Arabs in the Negev, as well as at-risk youth and ultra-orthodox Jews – can contribute to their community. The program is operated by local non-profit organizations within the community.
The program aims to enhance participants’ civic pride, promote their sense of belonging and thus create a new cadre of involved citizens able to respond to community needs. The program also prepares the young adults to integrate into the world of academics and employment.
