The public and legal advocacy arm of the Reform Movement in Israel (known as the Israel Movement for Progressive Judaism) was founded in 1987 with the goals of advancing pluralism in Israeli society and of protecting and defending the human rights of all Israeli citizens, regardless of race or religion. IRAC’s civic equality work is rooted in its belief that a clear, identifiable Jewish voice should be sounded in Israel against discrimination in services, budgets and rights for the Arab minority. Its civic equality work is divided into two areas, a resource allocation monitoring project and advocacy work against racism and incitement. IRAC identifies inequalities in government funding for Arab citizens of Israel, monitors resources allocated to the sector, and acts to change government or municipal discrimination in resource allocation for the Arab sector. The goal is to change the policy, procedure or law that causes the unequal allocation of resources or distribution of benefits (such as social services).
