Child Safety on the Road in Arab Society

Child mortality rate among Arab society is 3-5 times higher than among their Jewish peers with the leading cause being car accidents. This project focuses on issues regarding the safety of children on the road and around the car, particularly on securing children with seat belts and other safety issues. The project was designed having respect for the mindset prevalent in Arab society and therefore recruiting social leaders of the community, such as: Imams (Muslim leaders); police officials and volunteers; clinic nurses; and leading local women who are active in the Arab Democratic Party, to pass on important information on child safety to the parents with easily implemented tools.  These recruited social leaders undergo a short training program with regard to child safety and how to introduce a new parenting culture of child safety issues being part of parental responsibility (as opposed to injury being predestined), just as health issues, education and school.
