The Al-Laz Theatre presented the "War, Peace, and Social Justice" Short Plays Festival
On June 5-8, 2008, the
Al Laz Theatre hosted the
"War, Peace and Social Justice" festival of short plays. The festival aimed to make use of the theatre space in order to give voice to voiceless groups and issues. During these four days in June, Al Laz Theatre, in the historical part of Acre, hosted ten plays, each dealing with a different concern. The public was invited to discuss the plays, and to select the one play that made them see things differently.
The Al-Laz Theatre sees itself as a meeting place for theatre activities aiming for Social Change and Social Justice. This project was created by
Arik Gutler-Ofir during his MA studies (as a Rotary World Peace Fellow at the University of Queensland), where he was exposed to different theories dealing with Social Justice, one of which suggests Art as a tool for conflict resolution.
