The Other Israel Film Festival hosted the following events at the Manhattan JCC with author, producer, and Haaretz columnist Sayed Kashua:
  • Friday, May 16, 7:30pm - New Israel Fund (NIF) New Generation's Friday Night Dinner with Sayed Kashua
    20's-30's Friday night dinner and discussion with Sayed Kashua, who's weekly columns in Haaretz have become a cornerstone in the Israeli Shabbat experience. His satiric column has entertained readers with his wit and has sparked social debates in Israel.

  • Saturday, May 17, 9:00pm - Premiere Screening of "Arab Labor" (Avoda Aravit)
    International premiere of new episodes from the Israeli comedy series "Arab Labor" followed by a conversation with writer/creator, Sayed Kashua. "Arab Labor" is a satirical look at the Arab status in Israeli society, the controversy surrounding issues of identity and the sensitivities of both populations. Through humor, the series explores the daily conflicts that Israeli Arabs face between the desire to integrate and their own values and traditions.

  • Sunday, May 18, 7:00pm - Meet the Author Reading and conversation with Sayed Kashua, who will present his novels "Dancing Arabs" and "Let It Be Morning."

Sayed Kashua was born in Tira (triangle region of Israel) and now resides with his family in Bet Safafa, an Arab neighborhood in southern Jerusalem. Mr. Kashua writes a weekly, satiric column for Haaretz and a local Jerusalem weekly, Ha-Ir. In a humorous, tongue-in-cheek style, Kashua addresses the problems faced by the Arab citizens of Israel. He is the author of two novels, is the creator and writer of the Israeli comedic TV series "Arab Labor," and his book "Let it be Morning" was recently nominated for the prestigious International IMPAC Dublin Literary Award.
