The Maa`an Association is a nonprofit organization aimed at offering educational services to youth of all ages, as well as offer paramedical and special education services to children who need but can not afford such services. The association was established by local educators and intellectuals who, after witnessing the dire state of Jdayde-Maker's socioeconomic and educational situation, turned to the experts in the community and specialists in the field for assistance. To improve the situation of Jdayde-Maker, Maa’an targets its youth, specifically the ones that suffer from learning disabilities and find it difficult to function within the public school system. This group of youth is very vulnerable to the negative aspects of the social fabric since their elevated stress levels, combined with their dire economic condition often renders them socially paralyzed. Many become a socioeconomic burden themselves later on in life or, worse still, they turn to the criminal world for acceptance and financial opportunities.
