Israeli-Arab group facilitator Itaf Awad uses the Way of Council to teach the art of listening with the heart and speaking from the soul.
The Council process builds trust, self-value, deep communication, connection, and shared community leadership.
The basic practice of Council is simple. A group of people sits in a circle. The circle format engenders a sense of equality, since the facilitator is also a participant, rather than a lecturer or a teacher. Everyone has the feeling of "being in the same boat"
A talking piece is passed from person to person in the circle and one at a time people speak.
It is used in 60 schools in Los Angeles as well as peace groups in Israel, Palestine and Europe.
Itaf Awad (MA, Political Science from Haifa University) has facilitated the Way of Council with the Sulha Peace Project, Beyond Words, Academy of Central European Schools, and many other organizations in Israel, Palestine and Europe.
She also has facilitated numerous women's empowerment, body and soul workshops in Israel and Palestine.
Itaf is a staff member of Creativity for Peace in New Mexico, was a featured guest on Global Room for Women and is one of the founders of the Ojai Foundation inspired Maagal Hakshava or Circle of Listening in Israel,
Itaf Awad is donating her evolved skills in support of projects sponsored by Salaam Shalom Educational Foundation (http://www.SSEFoundation.org). Contact Shepha Schneirsohn Vainstein at Shepha@SSEFoundation.org for more information.
