Founded by Dr. Alon Tal, the Arava Institute is a ground-breaking academic institution located in the south of Israel. Operating in a region of historic conflict, the Institute is dedicated to the philosophy that nature knows no borders.  Young future leaders from Israel, Jordan, the Palestinian  Authority, and beyond are brought together through the Institute to study common environmental challenges. These studies are a platform not only for advancing sustainability but also for developing the trust, respect, and understanding that can serve as a foundation for peace.

The Friends of the Arava Institute Peace Building and Environmental Stewardship Award honors those who have dedicated their lives to building and promoting sustainability and coexistence. Their achievements have helped to build harmony with the earth and harmony with each other.
