The Ann Loeb Bronfman Gallery presents Jaffa Mosaic, a photography exhibition of work by ten different women who all live in one of Israel's most diverse cities: Jaffa.
From January to June, 2010, a photography workshop was held for women living in Jaffa. The photographs and experiences that came out of this project became known as the Jaffa Mosaic.
The project showcases the photographs of the workshop's participants, alll Jaffa residents, who each represent in their own way the city's unique urban tapestry. The workshop's goals were to encourage women to document and show aspects of their lives, allowing them a platform to present, discuss and share their individual expereiences of living in such a diverse city. The workshop and its outcome - Jaffa Mosaic - allowed viewers a glimpse into the creators' personal lives, revealing persona and social relationships, points of pride, hardships and criticism of established social policy in the area.
This exhibition was brought to Washington, DC through a grant from the Naomi and Nehemiah Cohen Foundation
The Inter-Agency Task Force on Israeli Arab Issues is currently touring the Jaffa Mosaic across North America. To bring the exhibit to your community, please contact Chris Silver.
