Conference Call: Israel's Prime Minister's Office and the Lautman Fund on New Investments for Druze and Bedouin in the North

Please join our next educational conference call briefing with Mr. Hashem Hussein, Manager of the Minority Department in the Prime Minister's Office, and Yael Neeman, Executive Director, The Lautman Fund. The call will take place Monday, June 27, 12:00 - 12:40 pm Eastern Daylight Time.

Mr. Hussein and Ms. Neeman will discuss challenges and opportunities facing the Druze and Bedouin in Israel's north from a government and philanthropic perspective respectively. Mr. Hussein will also discuss the Government's recent approval of a 680 million NIS plan for Druze and Circassian communities and a five year, 350 million NIS plan to strengthen and develop the Bedouin communities in Israel's north.

Mr. Hashem Hussein
Manager, Minority Department in the Prime Minister's Office


Hashem Hussein has served as the Manager of the Minority Department in the Prime Minister's Office since 2005.  In this capacity, he deals with preparation of government plans (reaching hundreds of millions of NIS) for developing the minority sector in different fields such as education, infrastructure, tourism, welfare, employment as well as supervising implementations of governmental decisions in various fields and in budgets. Mr. Hussein is also in charge of connecting local councils of the minority sectors to different groups that operate in these sectors such as the Joint Distribution Committee, the Authority for the Development of the Galilee, the IDF and the Center for Entrepreneurship and Business Development. Moreover, he serves as the Prime Minister's Office reference in charge of the annual work plans of the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of Tourism, Trade and Industry, the Finance Ministry, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of the Interior.

From 1994 - 2005, Mr. Hussein managed the editorial department for the Voice of Israel's Arabic language programming. He also served as Counselor at the Center for Democratic Studies in the Ministry of Education from 2001 - 2005. He worked for the National Evaluation Center previously and as a news editor at Chanel One before that. He performed his military service at the office of the Attorney General in Judea and Samaria.

Mr. Hussein received his M.A. and B.A. in Middle Eastern Studies from the Hebrew University, earned a teaching certificate from the Hebrew University and the Mandel Institute in 2004 and has completed a series of courses in different fields including journalism.

Mr. Hussein lives in Rama Village in the Upper Galilee.

Yael Neeman
Executive Director, The Lautman Fund


A lawyer, teacher and educator with a B.A. in Law and M.A. in Criminology from the Hebrew University, Yael has managed the Lautman Fund since its inception.  

The Lautman Fund deals primarily with education and promoting equality between Jews and Arabs. The foundation also develops and initiates nation-wide programs that enhance professional development of school principals, Druze education, strengthening education in peripheral neighborhoods and more. The foundation partners with organizations that are active in the field of education and equality such as Hakol Hinuch, a movement that promotes legislation in education, and Kav Mashve, an organization that strives to integrate Arab university graduates in the Israeli employment market.

Yael is a graduate of the Mandel Leadership Institute's School for Educational Leadership, and has previously worked in organizations dealing with Jewish identity and at the Joint Distribution Committee where she developed programs for children with special needs.
