On Wednesday, September 17, 2008 the Arab-Jewish Community Center hosted a special Iftar meal in memory of Sheikh Bassam Abu Zaid, Immam of Jaffa, who promoted understanding, tolerance and love between the nations.

Participating dignitaries included Minister of Education Yuli Tamir and Tel Aviv-Yafo Mayor Ron Huldai.

Speakers included:

• MK Rabbi Michael Malchior, Chairman of the Knesset Education Committe
• Archbishop Damaskinos, Senior Bishop of the Orthodox Church of Jerusalem
• Sheikh Suliman Satal, Chairman of the Islamic Movement in Jaffa
