LGG Public Outreach & Education
Rationale: There is little discussion among the Israeli-Arab public of the basic values of democracy such as transparency, good governance and the rule of law. Similarly, there is insufficient awareness of the value of civic participation and the rights and obligations of citizens. This problem is compounded by the fact that very little guidance and materials on these subjects are available in Arabic.
Activities: LGG raises public awareness of corruption and its ramifications through the following channels
- Facebook: LGG utilizes its Arabic language Facebook page with over 12,000 followers to raise awareness of the issues and to share LGG’s work in combating corruption
- Website: Launched in the second half of 2018, LGG’s website is the only comprehensive Arabic-language online resource in Israel on issues relating to good governance. It contains a database with information on all Arab local municipalities, dozens of articles, columns and op-eds on specific issues relating to good governance in Arab municipalities, relevant laws and rules, and countless other resources – all easily accessible for Arabic speakers.
- Public Lectures, Seminars and Conferences: LGG staff have delivered hundreds of lectures and seminars in a variety of educational settings
- Research Reports: LGG publishes the “Transparency Monitor”, an annual systematic analysis of the transparency of Israeli-Arab local municipalities and councils
- Local Media: While the local Arab press can sometimes be reluctant to publish cases of corruption, LGG sees media coverage as highly important in the fight against corruption. Every year, LGG’s efforts to fight corruption are featured in hundreds of Arabic-language news stories, op-eds and interviews.
