- The Israeli law defines "youth" or "youngsters" as individuals between the ages of 14 and 18. However, in most research studies, the term "youth" refers to a period of life that extend between "childhood" (until the age of 12) and "adulthood" (age 18 and over), i.e. individuals between the ages of 12 and 18.
- Youngsters constitute a significant segment of the Arab population in Israel. According to Israeli Central Bureau of Statistics figures for 2008, the cohort of Arab youngsters between the ages of 12 and 18 was 227,000, and constituted 15.5% of the total Arab population in Israel. For the sake of comparison, youngsters constituted 10.6% (587,700) of the total Jewish population.
- Arab youngsters accounted for almost 28% of Israel's total youth population, including Druze, exceeding the proportion of Arabs in Israel's total population (20.1%).
