A New Way

A New Way is a volunteer run public charity that promotes understanding, tolerance and acceptance between Arabs and Jews in Israel. This is achieved by creating dialogue from an early age. Multicultural meetings and activities are organized between Christian, Muslim and Jewish schools for all age groups – kindergarten to secondary school. Through various programs, such as drama, art, music and sport, a real and lasting friendship can be formed by children and young people of different religious and cultural backgrounds. In order for these programs to be effective, they must be frequent and ongoing. A New Way organizes anywhere between ten and twenty meetings a year over a period of three years. Without this active interaction, Arabs and Jews continue their lives knowing little or nothing of the others’ beliefs and lifestyles. This, in turn, increases the atmosphere of hostility and distrust which is already far too prevalent in Israeli society. The organization is administrated by Jewish and Arab professionals and academics. The list of volunteers includes psychologists, educational advisers, teachers and community workers. They ensure that not only will the children acquire a meaningful insight into each others’ culture, but also be enriched by an interesting and varied program of study. Furthermore, the interaction that our projects promote goes beyond the children involved. Their parents take part in workshops facilitated by professionals who specialize in intercultural meetings, thereby increasing awareness and understanding in the adult population.
