New campaign to stop discrimination against Arab workers
New campaign to stop discrimination against Arab workers
An internet campaign to stop discrimination and harassment against Arab workers for expressing their political beliefs was launched in partnership by Sikkuy, Mossawa, Kav Mashve, Kav LaOved and the New Israel Fund this week.
During Operation Protective Edge, increased tensions and acts of incitement deepened the social divide between Israel’s Arab and Jewish citizens. Scores of Israeli Arabs expressed their political views at work or on social media have been harassed, dismissed from their jobs or lost their scholarships at universities.
The campaign, which includes a video (see below), raises awareness about the issue, outlines employers’ rights, and provides a number of avenues for recourse, including links for filing discrimination claims, a worker’s hotline and access to legal support. Israel’s Equal Opportunities Act prohibits employers from discriminating against employees because of politics or party affiliation.
The video in the campaign also in Hebrew and Arabic, depicts various scenarios and underlines the importance of freedom of expression.
